• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

The Colony's Own NaNoWriMo!
Could he blame it a Democrat-adjacent aspect? State policies might not have the oomph you are looking for, but he sounds like someone who would inflate any slight to his ego.

If the incoming government saw a way to make billions off the Blue, deals would be made.

I've thought about that angle. But I don't like the idea of the Blue sharing tech with only one state. I think the Blue would know better than to allow that.

The Blue don't land. We send a Space-X to get them. I'd already thought of doing it this way, but for another reason. Now it could be, the Blue want a ride coz they don't want a single state to get their tech in the form of a ship.

Originally, Russia offered to be the first to host the aliens - prestige and all that. When the US is chosen, the Russians hatch a plan to sabotage the visit. Their line would then be that the US is too unstable to welcome them. Come to Russia where you will be safe.

I'm so confoozed.

Alternative timeline/history works for some authors? But maybe too recent?

@Bloo. Sit down, you're now going to get a lecture:

keep everything the way you've already planned it. I'm guessing you're not going to publish the book this year, nor early next. If you publish traditionally, it'll be several months if not a year before it hits the shelf. (That's if you get a deal today.) By then the world looks different, and people have moved on or forgotten. If not, it'll form a connection for them as they recognise something that happened in the past. Also, readers don't mind. They'll be engrossed in your story, character, world. If a plot point hints at a (past or current) moment in time, they won't say 'FFS, look, that's like xyz', then put the book down. They'll continue reading because they love the rest of your book. If readers were this fickle (is that the correct word?), we'd never be able to write anything again because everything mirrors real life in some way. They'll be nicely ensconced in your words. Part of writing is putting real life onto the page. Writing and reading about life is part of how we process what's going on. So get your head down and write it the way you've set it out.

Now get up and continue. Lecture over.

PS:
I have a failed entrepreneur blame his misfortune on "Democrat" policies.
This concept describes pretty much every election in the western world in recent history, and will continue in the foreseeable future.

In 4 years it'll probably be some other failed entrepreneur blaming the Republicans.

You will find a way to make it work. This is too good to shelve.
