• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

LiNoWriMo Litopia Novel Writing Month (LiMoWriMo)

The Colony's Own NaNoWriMo!
Just a note, it wasn't long ago that Hemmingway was the gold standard for daily word count, and he recommended what he produced, 300.
More importantly: All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.
On the other hand, Pratchett produced about 3k words a day (mostly at night)...

I'm way behind my target. MUST WRITE...

500 words this morning. Mostly working on the first few scenes based on more great feedback from yesterday's Huddlers: developing voice, creating emotional intimacy with the detective, relatability, sensory detail and setting. I've also read the openings of @MattScho 's recommendation, The Lake in the Woods, and Missing, Presumed to see how the authors engage the reader immediately. I seem to need to work in layers on this section of the story - first a skeleton of events/dialogue, then development of the crime scene in round two, then adding more texture and emotion in round three. Hopefully, it's getting better each time. Thanks to those who are helping me to shape this story xx

And Prachett was a lot more productive over his writing life.
We all have our systems. Mine is, when I reach 1,000 words I should stop. I break this rule sometimes, but I usually regret it

I keep thinking I'm within two or three days of being done, then I finish writing and look at the story, and realize I'm still 2 or three days from being finished.
I'm writing between 700 and 1,000 words a day, the WIP stands at 35,000. I've mapped out what comes next, and I like it quite a lot. It's not a lot. But it's very much the movie optical illusion trope, the hall just stretches out further and further, without affecting the structure of the thing. I'm kind of shocked I haven't finished yet.

It sounds very Alice in Wonderland. maybe it's becasue you realise scenes you've pencilled in with telling need to be expanded with showing. That's where I am with Feck. That and finally getting rid of all the dead wood that is left over from the first draft means my word count keeps shrinking and growing and shrinking like Alice.

So with the aid of the lovely Lyse I have rewritten the first 10k of "EquiVox" The plot and motivations have been outlined more clearly and finally there isnt an extraneous word or sentence. At least to my jaundiced eye. Now the synopsis which Tramp Press allows to be as long as THREE 3 THREE pages and the dreaded cover letter. If the deed be done, it's best it be done quickly. Like before closing office hours today. Then I have to decide if I continue to rewrite this book or start on One Magic Summer.

Entirely possible, but I thought I was accounting for that

Sent off the revised Feckless to Tramp Press. Shaved off a few more words added a few more. I'm confident that cover, synopsis, and first 10k words are as good as I can do at this point in time. So Vaya Con Dios little submission. May the odds be always in your favour. As an omen the sun has come out this morning and the farm is bathed in that lovely painterly light that comes from the sea salt in the air.

I've decided since I'm this far in the story I'll continue the rewrite starting from the end which is too short. If I can get the rest of the manuscript in as good of shape as the first 10k it will be a good Liniwrimo.

I'm WRITING! I have added about 12k words to what was, in effect, the first 3 chapters, and the second-to-last one, with a few sketchy plot points in between.

I'm doing more filling-in and filling-out than plot progression. I feel a bit guilty just doing the bits I enjoy most - especially conversations. I love writing conversations, as it means I can inhabit my characters' heads more fully.

At some point, very soon, I will have to develop the centre of the plot, to bridge the hints I have seeded the first few chapters with to the ending denouement. I know it will come, but I have no idea what it will be, as yet. A faint inkling is forming, but I must leave it to grow, and not scare it away by nailing it to the page too soon.

Wish me luck.

Well done. It's brilliant and doesn't need luck, but I wish it anyway.
On a different topic, what is this "sun" of which you speak?
