• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read.

I read aloud to my sons until they were in double digits and finally devouring books without me being there. Kids often hit a point where what they can read, and what actually interests them, are miles apart. Reading to them bridges that gap, and keeps them thinking books are fun rather than hard work. My youngest still buys me his favourite book of the year as my Xmas present.
