Lots to do yet as a writer, but time flies, as Ezra Pound shows in And the Days Are Not Full Enough: And the days are not full enough/And the nights are not full enough/And life slips by like a field mouse/Not shaking the grass.
I am blessed with a new laptop, which arrived only 44 hours after I ordered it, courtesy of the Royal Mail. It looks so innocent sitting there charging. Little does it know how many novels will be written on it. Hang on! My last laptop lasted 10 years, and I'm 65....meaning the new laptop may well outlive me!
Wonderful Giffgaff! I've praised this mobile broadband provider before, and they've just got even more splendid, doubling the £20 allowance from 20GB + IGB for emergency use, to 40GB + I GB. They're the best company I've ever dealt with.
Potential disaster! After being asked for the full manuscript by The Future Bookshelf, I duly sent it off last Friday. A bit surprised not to receive an acknowledgement, I was mortified when they contacted me yesterday asking why I hadn't sent it! I re-sent it, blaming its non-delivery on the Rings of Saturn, which are made of lost emails. I'm glad they contacted me, otherwise I'd have thought I was unsuccessful.
I'm sorry to hear of the death of one of my writing heroes, Andrea Camilleri, whose Inspector Montalbano crime novels are intriguing fun. He should be one of the patron saints of older writers, for he found fame at the age of 66. Andrea Camilleri obituary
Wise words from Pete Seeger: If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production.
As I continue my confused self-promotion campaign with blogging and social media, I couldn't agree more with J.G. Ballard's observation: "Any fool can write a novel but it takes a real genius to sell it."
