Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.
This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.
Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…
We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Sweet. Buying my tickets tonightLets go for the dates 22nd of April; it feels like destiny that Robinne will be in the UK that weekend too! We'll plan the 22nd (Saturday) and then if Robinne can make it to London we can have an impromptu day 2 on the Sunday. But let's just aim for the first day, and trust that everything will transpire in its own perfect way, as it always does
SO; LITFEST IS ON THE 22ND OF APRIL 2023!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a fab idea. It'll be the Pub Ups that week.We can bring our laptops for the Sunday pop-up at a pub. Or is that not a good idea?
If they do Stetsons or similar that aren't made from wool or leather, I would love one.Coming late to the party, but I may be able to fly in from Texas. Let me know how many cowboy hats I should bring.
As many as can fit would propably be the best answer...Let me know how many cowboy hats I should bring.
Have you ever been slung in the street out of a pub before?? This trip promises lots of new experiences, does it not...April 22 & 23 sounds great. We can do an in-person huddle and bring our laptops for the Sunday pop-up at a pub. Or is that not a good idea?
Not exactly. London somewhere... Working on itApril 22nd? Brilliant. Do we know exactly where we'll be gathering?
I have actually been kicked out of a pub before ... for not drinking enough. Bunch of local mums met at the pub one evening back when my kids were little. Of course we all had to drive home, and none of us were big drinkers anyway, with little kids in the house. So we were nursing our tonic and limes for hours. We were the only ones in our small rural pub, and the publican kicked us out so he could go home early. LOL!Have you ever been slung in the street out of a pub before?? This trip promises lots of new experiences, does it not...
Emily,It shall, indeed
I'll take over a sod of turf and we can burn it, sniff it and sing some tunes from the old homestead (that's if I'm not arrested for smuggling in not only a cake, but a large, suspicious looking fibrous lump of earth)
Emily,
Wife and I will be in Ireland the week before or after, not sure yet. Staying at Fiztpatrick Castle, Dublin.
Litfests around the world... could become A Thing...I'd be game for an American meetup. Since I'm in Lancaster, PA, I could swap an Amish hat for a cowboy hat. However, I would suggest that such a meeting be held in New York City - flights are cheap, hostel bunks are plentiful, and lots of us know their way around.
Fitzpatrick castle hotel in Killiney? That's down the road from where I used to live as a kid! Ask for one of the rooms with a balcony. Great view.Emily,

OMG! That's where the wedding was? It's literally just down the road from my parents' house which is on Claremont Road.No way James!! I came home from that VERY hotel yesterday, where my brother got married! What a coincidence It is a really beautiful place to stay, even if you never ventured beyond Killiney village. We might have to do an Irish Litfest offshoot so!!

I have never been to the USA, though people who have tell me that New York is by far the most expensive place.Litfest '24?
Yes My new SIL is from there, her family - in true Irish style- were most likely your neighbours!!!!OMG! That's where the wedding was? It's literally just down the road from my parents' house which is on Claremont Road.
It's pretty ridiculous, yea. There are much cheaper places.I have never been to the USA, though people who have tell me that New York is by far the most expensive place.
!!! Where do they live? Bet I know the street. Our street's opposite Killiney Hill Park.Yes My new SIL is from there, her family - in true Irish style- were most likely your neighbours!!!!
I think that there are places that are far more expensive than NYC as a whole. How about Aspen, Colorado? Or the whole state of Hawaii? BTW ... I have relatives in Finchley, London and that costs more than any of them.I have never been to the USA, though people who have tell me that New York is by far the most expensive place.
