• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Choose your Muse, because if you love writing, what is the alternative?

Go on thinking that you don't need to be read and you'll find that it may become quite true: no one will feel the need to read it because it is written for yourself alone; and the public won't feel any impulse to gate crash such a private party - Dylan Thomas

It appears that mystery stories need a muse - I'm dredging through my faded memories of Greek mythology seeking one. Any suggestions? Desponia? Leda? Is that Leda of Leda and the Swan fame?

No Muses for all the many genres. I think you'd need to go with the spirit, mood or voice of your work. Your story about the Family Man...well that could (arguably?) be Melpomene.

In fairness to the classical ancients, the art form of the novel was not yet invented.

Thankfully all my Muse requires is strong, hot tea and time. He used to enjoy digestive buscuits as well but since I am on a health kick, Norman has agreed to forgoe that little pleasure.

Well my understanding is Ceridwen (the goddess) covers poetry and possibly fantasy, certainly feels like it to me. ;)
