• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I've got a little e-book on putting together non-fiction proposals - you can see details here. I know most of you are fictionists, so wouldn't be interested, but if anyone is thinking of dipping a toe into the non-fiction world, drop me a message and I'd be happy to let you have a copy.

I 'm interested, Brian, thank you. My shoulder is to the fiction wheel for now, but I've been simmering a non-fiction book on the back burner for some time. A lot of the content is there, title and angles still to be worked out. So, do you work out your proposal before you start, then finish to order as it were?

Generally with non-fiction it's best not to write too much of it ahead of pitching it, as you may want to go in a different direction after discussion with a publisher. What they usually look for is a proposal (see the document for details), including a chapter summary, and two or three sample chapters.
