Having "a face like a pickled walnut" is an insult I remember from childhood—applied to someone with a weathered and wrinkly face. o_O

In my family a jar of pickled walnuts was always part of the basket of delicacies that only ever appeared at Christmas.

But if you are a fan of the humble walnut, then this might offer you a different take on them....

Now my dear old pa-in law used to make his own, and I spent many a happy night back in my bacchanalian days, sipping on a glass or three in the sultry heat of long Dalmatian evenings. Worth seeking out if you like your booze a little different.
