Hi I’ve just joined. Is anyone else writing an historical tale about Irish settlers downunder, set in the late eighteen seventies?

Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.
This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.
Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…
We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Irish settlers downunder
Used to love Wilbur Smith, especially his early novels, as I spent some time in Zambia where he was born. I did think he became a little bit formulaic later on, probably because he was under pressure to keep churning out best sellers — but oh to have that kind of success! I haven’t read Blood in the Dust, so if you can provide a link to your review I’d be very interested to read it.Welcome aboard @Rosie W
Are you? Because that sounds interesting. I critiqued the first half of Blood in the Dust (winner of the 2018 Wilbur Smith best unpublished manuscript) - now published - and, from memory (it's a few years ago now) that was set downunder with one of the characters being a new settler (not Irish though). But I don't write it myself, I write YA fantasy.
Thank you. It’s a learning curve at the moment but I’ll get there eventually.Hi Rosie
