I haven't been to Galveston in 20 plus years, but enjoyed it when I was there. I remember when Hurricane Whoever did some major damage several years back.

I would like to add Watchmen, The Last Samurai, and Casino Royale, but I wouldn't call them life altering. Just all-time favorites, I guess.

I'm quite partial to some Asian martial arts type films, like House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower. Visually stunning backdrops and locations.
