• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

LiMoWriMo Mid year LiNoWriMo anyone?

The Colony's Own NaNoWriMo!
Nikky! Just what i need right now, to write now. I need to do a full third rewrite, and have been putting it off because, you know, lotta stuff on YouTube that needs time wasted on it.
I looked last night and thought, i am gonna set a deadline for completion. I think July 31 works as well as any. Long answer.
Short one: I'm in!

I need to double-down on my third novel rewrite - although I need to keep doing short fiction too - so yep, count me in, and I'll see what a focussed month can do for me.

Okay, so next test is to see if people can use this link to track their progress? TrackBear
Signed up fine. But is it necessary for LiNoWriMo?

I'm pretty useless with apps like this. I've tried task tracking apps before and let them slide as being more of a chore than the thing I'm trying to do.

You might be able to convinced me otherwise, but If I've got to log on to another app, I'm more likely to end up forgetting it and just get on with writing.

I'm in! thanks @Nikky Lee
I'll skip the TrackBear but thanks for the option.
Will there be a new link posted, or will we use this one?
I will post a new link once it all kicks off.
Alternatively, if people don't want to use Trackbear, I can set up a spreadsheet like before

Ah I didn't do it before, and haven't done Nano so am not in the know.
What's with the tracking? And how do you track when you're editing?
(BTW I can wait till it all kicks off to find out. I'm still in.)

Just like in weight watcher weighing in. Helps keep some of us accountable. If it doesn't work for you-not necessary. I was able to sign up for the link. This starts July1?

You should be able to set a different goal and measure and track that. For editing it could be chapters, words, scenes, or lines edited—or time. There should be a tab that says "My Participation" that allows you to edit what your goal is.

Once you set your goal, the leaderboard will track your percentage towards your individual goal alongside everyone else.

For those of you who remember back to November last year, we did ran a pretty successful Litopia NaNoWriMo for national novel writing month. Is anyone keen for a mid-year event?
I'd like to give it a go. I'm going to try my hand at a political eco-thriller. Potential log line is: When a brilliant young biochemist creates a virus to peacefully reduce the human population and force global climate reform, her plan is hijacked by a grief-stricken radical, turning her act of eco-resistance into a potential mass extinction event.

I'm working on the outline right now. Although it is tough. It is 7.15pm and my study is still over 30°C (thanks to the latest heat wave).

So, unless I die of heatstroke, I intend to crack the outline and get at least 30K words done by my 65th birthday!

Brilliant concept.
