Is the 'near-miss' rejection email dead?

I started out cynical. I'm not sure there's a word for where I've got to now.

It's an unlikely source of inspiration, but a line from Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer struck me as significant when I first heard it 31 years ago:

"You live for the fight when it's all that you've got."

It's an attitude that I have to approaching writing, editing and querying....the fight's the thing. Even if I achieve any success, the struggle will continue to create an interesting story, hammer it into shape, then persuade someone of influence to publish it.
