How did it take me so long?!

Hello, fellow Litopians! As per my title, I don't know how it took me so long to find Litopia; but having spent the afternoon watching a highly entertaining Pop-Up Submissions while folding a vast -very vast- pile of laundry (I'm exciting like that) and getting lost in all the insightful conversations and articles shared, the relief is great that I am here *at last*.

I am a writer, painter and illustrator and have blogged for years, completing a trilogy of books (speculative fiction/magic realism) last year. The whole querying/submissions side of things wants to make me run and hide, but having said that, I managed to query to nine agents and my full MS has been requested, so I am living in hope.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and hope I can contribute to this very vibrant and supportive community

Sometimes English is talked down as a less romantic language, but here is 'rainbird'. And I think 'rainbow' and 'butterfly' are easily as beautiful as 'arc- en- ciel' or 'papillon'.

Rainbow in Spanish is arcoíris [stressed short i sound: ar-ko-i-ris], which I think is pretty. But rainbird would be pajaro de lluvia, which doesn't cut it at all. So yeah, rainbird wins in English.

I'm always intrigued when I hear it said it's a less romantic language; I find there are so many very beautiful words that make you want to roll your tongue over them and absorb their flavour and texture and complexity. I often prefer the English counterpart to say, the French, which I find can be delightful in its frothy bouffant-ness, but English has a lovely clarity (imo !)

Oh, yeah, Rainbird is definitely a winner over pajaro de lluvia

And plenty of gritted teeth here too (my zen-ness is for my kids benefit so they don't remember their mother predominantly as a wailing ball of limbs. It's difficult to maintain, but I'm getting better with practice.
