• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Over the years, Litopia has amassed 38,000 followers on Twitter, so turning our back on them is hard. However – how many of those people are still there, in fact – and actually active?

I don’t know. What I do know is that place is the embodiment of that unpleasant term for an even more repellent internet fact-of-life – Enshittification. It needs no explanation.

So it’s goodbye, X.

And hello to Threads.

This means that our social media profile currently consists of…

Bluesky
Facebook
Threads
and of course, YouTube.

This will affect anyone who blogs here (hopefully, everyone has activated their blog, yes?).

The reason it’s important is this; we’ll soon ask you to write a short social media post when you write your blog post.

Your social media post will be published on the above websites – with a link back to your blog post – soon after the post goes live on Litopia. We want your writing to be read by as many readers as possible… and this is one way to build your readership.

You probably also know that all the most recent Litopia blog posts are aggregated into our regular Sunday newsletter – another opportunity for you to reach new readers.

This improvement will be implemented in the next few days, more info soon.

The X-odus continues
Yup. Musk’s lawyers are still phoning advertisers threatening to sue them if they fail to advertise. Which as a former ad man, enrages me… whatever happened to Musk’s much-vaunted “free speech”, then? Egads!
But if you spend any time scrolling around “X” (I don’t recommend it) you’ll get a quite nasty vibe. Not a good place to hang out (gee, I wonder if we’ll get one of those phone calls…?)
I really don’t know how you rehabilitate it, either. It’s gone.
