Believe it or not I've never actually seen this film or any of the found footages it has spawned. Credit to the makers for coming up with a clever new concept and making a hit film on such a low budget but I never felt I would enjoy the film. Am I wrong? Should I give it a shot?

Well, it’s iconic in several ways – so if you’re into film for any reason, you probably should.

Yes, it did spawn a host of shakycam films, but nothing (imho) quite as effective as the original.

It's claustrophobic and creepy...no schlock but big on atmosphere. The ending horrified me, all right.

It’s surprisingly difficult for many filmmakers to create that scary, chilling atmosphere. Even on budgets a magnitude bigger. That is one of BW’s key strengths.

Interestingly, the BW2 sequel had a far greater budget, but in my view failed to live up to the first. I think it was a studio project, which probably was the kiss of death...
