Had one of my rare moments on Netflix today. Now, I realise every country is different, but, just in case, have a look and see if you have the documentary, The Creative Brain. Fascinating!
 
It has a Nobel prize winning author in it about half way and he shares his process (very simply). Good luck finding it! Here is a trailer:
