• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hi, my name is Richard Ayling and I write from my little home office in a small village on the outskirts of Swansea in the U.K.

Thank you for letting me join Litopia where I hope to learn, make friends and gain some critique of my novel-writing aspirations. I am currently working on the second book chronologically in a trilogy of books about an aristocratic family from the 1700s. The first book (The Drawing Room Suffragette) brings you into the saga during 1900 and takes you on a journey charting a family tragedy, the resulting breakdown of love and trust until a reunion for some in 1920.

This is my first attempt at a novel. I'm trying to build a tribe of followers of my effort through an FB page on which I show areas of my research and share thoughts. Everyone is welcome there. I have no idea how well the story will be received, whether it will be of interest to a publisher or if indeed just to flatter myself for all the effort, I may self publish; time will tell I guess.

I look forward to reading all the threads here and hopefully will pick up a bag full of hints and tips along the way.

Hiya and welcome.
I’ve learnt a shed-load since I joined just over a year ago, mostly from putting my work up for critique, and from giving feedback to others. Hope it works for you too, and happy to have you here.

Hi Richard, welcome to the Colony. As @RK Capps says, we are friendly. Head over to the Writing Groups as it's a great way to get feedback on your writing. Critiquing others will also develop your writing skills.

Welcome Richard,

Everyone's extremely friendly so do jump right in if you’re ready to. Otherwise just have a mooch around.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) what goes on in the colony, and if anything is unclear, please send me a Personal Message and I’ll be happy to help if I can.
