• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Once again, Saturday sees our weekly Writers' Huddle, and at the bottom of this post, you will find a link to the Huddle Hangout Forum. If you wish to be included in this week's session, then simply post your name below (here in this thread) with an optional message along the lines of (Yes please. Count me in... You betcha... etc.)

When you add your name, I will include you in the Private Group in the Huddle Hangout. Then, when you click the link below, to take you to the Hangout, you just select the post with the relevant date, wherein the Zoom Meeting Link will found in the first post of that group thread. :) Please note, when added to the group you will also receive a notification. So you now have two ways of getting to the session on the day.

This sign up thread will be posted here every week. The old thread process is no longer in use!

IMPORTANT:

To avoid any doubt, you can be sure Pete's intention is to hold a Huddle
every week. The only exceptions to this might be unforeseen circumstances. Should that ever be the case, a post informing The Colony will appear in Cafe Life.

If you've not attended one before - what happens in a Huddle?

Put simply, every week when the Private Group thread goes live (normally Thursday AM UK time) you can post work for @AgentPete and fellow Huddlers to offer critique and suggestions on. These submissions can be anything - from the opening pages of your work in progress, to a blurb, synopsis or query letter. Nothing is out of bounds. General questions on the publishing industry are encouraged and if you spot something you feel is worth sharing with the group, then that's also welcomed.

So don't be shy, there's no pressure and you don't need to submit work. You can simply attend just to watch and listen or help with the critique. The atmosphere is completely relaxed and there is anyways lots of fun.

Yes please, Jonny. And can you please kindly check with me that my account looks ok to you and that it will let me open any submissions on the huddle page as it's glitchy (I think) in the lab now. I tried opening a couple of lab projects but they say i don't have access. A couple of weeks ago i couldn't open submissions on the huddle page prior to huddle. TIA !

Hi @Trey

I'm adding you to the group and on the face it looks like you should have no issues.

But I have no access to the levers and handles that set account issues in terms of permissions so I can't check.

I'll tag @AgentPete here.

Hey Trey... I've just analysed your permissions in the Lab, you ought to be able to see attachments to posts, as below. Are you still having problems? :) p.

Hiya, I don't know what you did but they both opened straight away this time without the 'oops, you don't have permission/access (can't remember)' message. Thanks for checking.
