Growing up, during apple season my mom would make two apple pies, and that's what we'd have for dinner! Hot apple pie, with milk poured over it!

Ah, the truth is, I only do two (well, okay, often three) crazy cakes a year. Most of my baking is just what it is. Though I enjoy making it look good. Carrot cake, anyone?

I think Rhubarb is beautiful, but only in season, you don't see any of it in Spain, and very rarly in Switzerland. My mother used to make 'Rhubarb fool' when we were young.

Interesting cultural difference... I suspect "pie" to an American tends to be sweet / dessert, Brits tend towards the savory...

Here in British-influenced NZ, pies are usually savoury, though growing up in Pennsylvania, pies were usually sweet. The PA Dutch aren't shy about eating sweets for a meal though. Gotta have your 7 sweets and 7 sours!

Although we're known to eat chicken pot pies and shepherd's pies, I'd estimate that somewhere over 90% of American pies are sweet. Although, the song is bitter ...
