I've commented before on the unfairness of the profit split that digital publishers offer authors. This is commonly only 25%, even though all of the publisher's expenses in storing, promoting and delivering an ebook are much less than with a traditional book.
The Alliance of Independent Authors and The Authors Guild are both pushing for a 50% royalty. This article shows that big publishers are not as good at selling digital versions of their clients books as those writers who stay independent and do it for themselves :

At least 50%, I mean with digital, the Author does most of the work!
 
It is a bit of a swiz isn't it? Perhaps that will change, perhaps it won't but in the mean time we will need to keep it in mind and shop around.
