• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

    This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

    Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Litopians All!

Here we sit, some miles in between, backs and eyes straining with this fucking screen!
And yet, it is a screen of smiles, of friendly strangers: friends and strange.
Some faces frozen now, mid-moment grabbed and pasted awkward as a squashed bugs,
or now blurred, or not shown at all (or doubled, if you’re an Eva), all in obeisance to the lag of Godly internet

Voices are given to love, to creativity, and to impish innuendo:
Now one roars out unexpectedly, microphones catching ungainly inadvertence, and we all wince;
Now it is with background noises, making front stage proclamations: a wah wah pedaled guitar from Barbrawl’s beaux; a stray sausage comment from the outspoken nun-knower, etc.

Written chat lends “amen” to various spoken thoughts,
And gives word to perverse ponderings and naughty novelties, made hilarious by rapier wit and sarcasm as thick as Shropshire Blue.

Litopians all, with wit, wonder, weirdness and want, all paraded in faces and voices,
as darling words are cut like limbs from our gasping prose.
Like an egoic antithete (a word I just made up), we parade our verbal and written children before this counsel of kindly killers, watching as they are torn asunder by friends.
To this, we raise a glass, silently curse, and dive back in for more of the same!

This ship, its captain, the monomaniacal Manager, sails on choppy seas, scurvy held at bay by lemon cuts in whiskey and wine
And I, amidst its rotating, rosy-cheeked crew, am a better man for all of it!
