Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.
This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.
Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…
We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

I went to The Street Easy for New Year’s Eve. Although it was heaving I did have time for a quick chat with Ruby and she is determined to make sure the food is suitable and varied. All the vegan stuff is done in a separate kitchen space to ensure no cross-contamination, etc.Perfect. I'm not a fan of burgers or nachos. Pescatarian sounds delish.

And then I had three of Jake’s cocktails, and don’t remember much after that. Sorry.

My ex boss in a café bar used to say: "It's a kind of rubber, dipped in salt and grease, that middle class people pretend is cheese. But if they keep buying it, I'll keep grilling it."(Just googled halloumi.)
My fella wouldn't eat the runner beans that I grew, because he said they were "squeaky beans".I call Halloumi "squeaky cheese". Because when you eat it, it sounds like your teeth squeak.
Apart from the bothies, I don't think the article writers understand the concept of cheap. I would call these less expensive.I saw this in the Guardian about cheap places to stay 10 of the best ways to find bargain places to stay in the UK
Well, tourist prices. But I'm at the age I need to be able to walk in the morning without Solpadeine.Apart from the bothies, I don't think the article writers understand the concept of cheap. I would call these less expensive.
It's the Guardian. Ever looked at their fashion pages? Their readership think that £300 for a jumper is normal.Apart from the bothies, I don't think the article writers understand the concept of cheap. I would call these less expensive.
There was a suggestion about having a get-together in Scotland, though no plan formed. If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to help organise it, and would suggest Glasgow, as it's easy to reach by train from London, Manchester and Birmingham, has an airport, and has accommodation half the price of Edinburgh, yet Edinburgh in a cheap train ride away for anyone wanting to visit.I tried to start a group for sharing info etc. Dont know how to link. I thought Scotland was mentioned? Anyhoo glad to find this again.
Shall we start a group to discuss. I get lost in this thread. I have Neve been to Scotland and would love to go. Having people who know the area and non tourist places would be ideal. There was a suggestion about having a get-together in Scotland, though no plan formed. Also their recipes. But I used to have a YHA membership years back. And there used to be Elder hostels where you could stay in school dormitories and take classes. Some of the ideas I can work with. It's the Guardian. Ever looked at their fashion pages? Their readership think that £300 for a jumper is normal.

Exmouth Market. XxxSo Lit fest April 22-23rd Exmouth London. I missed the confirmation in the thread. Maybe do a reminder announcement for those of us with short memories?
That sounds like you're anticipating a 24 hour event. Can I just say, I'm in. What a good idea.22-23rd
Yes! My 5th great-grandfather was from Edinburgh.I think the idea was to move the litfest to different places each year, e.g. Scotland 2024.
London has a surprising lack of 24 hour bars, compared to, say, Manchester, though I'm sure we can sniff them out. That sounds like you're anticipating a 24 hour event. Can I just say, I'm in. What a good idea.
I say we revive the good old English tradition of lock in. This place closes at 10:30. What about 2nd party? That sounds like you're anticipating a 24 hour event. Can I just say, I'm in. What a good idea.
