• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

One of my top literary heroines is Anne of Green Gables, hence my avatar. I have a big soft spot for Jo March from Little Women too.
And there are more.
Who are your favourites?

Umm... I like the heroine in Kushiel's Dart ... and Stranger in a Strange Land ... I like the characters in my favorite books ... in general.

I like characters who are messed up ... I don't have a heroine I identify with.

I used to read Anne of Green Gables when I was a kid. Very tame books .... I have happy memories of them.

I reserve the right to completely change my mind, but here are the first few I thought of:
  • Dorian Gray
  • Holly Golightly
  • Lorelei Lee
  • Psmith
  • Nero Wolfe
  • R Daneel Olivaw
There's a fun game to be had where you quote either Jo March or Morrissey and ask people to guess who said it. For example:

"I'm ugly and awkward and I always say the wrong thing."

Or

"Girls are so queer you never know what they mean."

Oh my god. How could I forget Holly Golightly? I feel like I've committed a crime.

Of course ... that's who.

Also.... Beatrix Kiddo. I forgot her too.

I think the first is Morrissey and the second is Jo March.

Beatrix Kiddo is a cinematic character. You probably mean Lisbeth Salander.

If movies were included, I'd have Amélie Poulain.

Oh..... I like Amelie too.

Yes, Lisbeth Salander is almost as good ... but Beatrix was such a good mom. I liked that about her.
