• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hey everybody!

I'm new in town, so here's a little bit of my writing journey so far.

I had my first self-publication in August of 2021, a fantasy adventure story akin to the 'Inheritance Cycle' series by Christopher Paolini called 'Origins: the Compound.' Since then, I have written short stories mostly in the horror and suspense genres that I have accumulated into an anthology collection. I am in the process of writing the sequel to 'The Compound,' but after reading a TON of fantasy books by Brandon Sanderson (omg so good I literally cry reading some of the chapters,) Patrick Rothfuss (the first love interest in a fantasy book that I really liked,) R. Scott Baker (the books were interesting, but very, very weird,) and Peter Brett (I'm only on and a half books into the 'Demon Cycle' series and i don't know how to feel about it yet,) it is my goal to make the next addition to my 'Origins' series a great deal more sophisticated. Additionally, I am in the process of writing a second anthology collection that is in part inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and his unique style and cadence of writing.

I, like many of you, I'm sure, would like to build my readership, to be motivated and inspired by other like-minded people, and have at least one book deal in my life lol. I have been writing for a long time, but I am a novice at the professional literary world, and that is my chief goal in joining this group: to educate myself and to build connections.

Hi Noah

Welcome. I’m relatively new here too. What I can say though, with one hundred percent confidence, is that you’ve found both the loveliest and most helpful group of writers on the web.

The Lab is a great place to submit your work for feedback, helping you make it the best it can possibly be. You can submit after giving around five (I think) rounds of feedback on other’s work. I’d urge you to keep checking the lab for other’s work though, as I’ve learned just as much from giving feedback as receiving it.

Clare x
