Interesting Twitter thread with data helpfully cruched and summarised here.

This is interesting for those of us involved (if only at an aspirational level!) in publishing, because the UK book market is one of the biggest in the world.

CHILDREN'S FICTION was the UK's best-selling genre of books in 2019.

JUST SAYIN', @AgentPete ;)

(I think a fair amount of that was down to one hugely successful author: ladies and gents, I give you Mr David Walliams)

Commercially, children’s continues to be very significant. Much international potential, plus tv/film rights too. Also, you don’t have to be a kid to read children’s fiction!

Too right! Some of my favourite books this year have been written for children.

From a writer's perspective, children can be such rewarding readers. If they love something, they're more than happy to let you know.
