• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hi all, from sunny Down Under... I'm a newbie here, returning from a submission/publishing hiatus.

I've been officially writing for 5yrs, and before that, worked in the travel industry as a copywriter and travel agent. It's a thrilling world and I love writing about it...and photographing it. These days, I write romantic fiction.

I'm open to critiquing queries, synopses, opening chapters, and sub packages for authors of any stage in their journey. I've been represented before.

Looking forward to chatting books and craft.

xx Elly

Hi Elly, and welcome from another Aussie! Adelaide.
Maybe try the opening chapter in the writing workshop and see what happens. I'll read it (shorter pieces only atm), for sure.

Hi all, from sunny Down Under... I'm a newbie here, returning from a submission/publishing hiatus.

I've been writing FT for 5yrs, and before that, worked in the travel industry as a copywriter, graphic designer, and travel agent. It's a thrilling world and I love writing about it...and photographing it. These days, I write romantic fiction (single title length standalones and series), always with a low angst, upbeat tone, a bit of adventure, some humor, and HEA.

I've had U.S literary agency representation twice and recent romance manuscripts go to acquisitions. I've published serialized fiction and an indie (just to try self-pub at least once) under another pen name.

I'm looking for romance beta/ARC readers for my latest work —a contemporary romance/89,000 words titled, DATE ME, I DARE YOU. This book made it to acquisitions with two major publishers and was passed in with the feedback that contemporary romance readers are currently looking for darker, grittier, 'wreck me' books. My book/s are a breath of fresh air, therefore unpublishable, right now. I'm seeking honest feedback on whether I'm able to captivate and hold a reader from start to finish.

I'm open to critiquing queries, synopses, opening chapters, and sub packages for authors of any stage in their journey, as I do feel this has been one of my strengths (high request rate on agent and publisher queries). CP'ing with established authors is something I may be able to do in the future, just not right now (sorry!).

Looking forward to meeting fellow a-fiction-ianados.

xx

Welcome, @ellyaisling ! Can't wait to get acquainted :D

A very warm welcome to the colony, @ellyaisling

Nice to have you here.

Hope you enjoy Litopia and please do get involved as soon as you’re ready to.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear do please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist if I can.

currently i'm trying to get going on writing my third book, which will hopefully be the first one i publish. hoping to have at least one novel out by the time i graduate, but before i can do that i probably need to actually write it, haha!

Welcome aboard, Elly, from a fellow Aussie :) Where r u? I'm in Sydney. Life is too busy for me to critique/write atm (I hate it!), but hopefully in a few months I'll be free again. I could snatch time for a couple of thousand words.
Hi RK, thanks so much for the welcome. Hope things start to ease off for you in the second half of the year. 2023 has been crazy. xx Elly

Hey there, thanks for the tip! Adelaide's a great place to be. I'm in sunny QLD but I live in a cooler area that has actual seasons, which I adore ❄️ xx Elly

Congrats on those first two books. Number 3 might be trickier to evolve but your writing will be stronger than the first two, so it's a good strategy to go on debut with the latest one. Exciting stuff. xx Elly

Hi Elly, Welcome to Litopia. I am sure your experience, romance writing and author feedback will be welcome on the site. I like the book title.
Best wishes

Hello, Paul, and thank you. I started out in literary fiction and non fiction, so romantic fiction has been quite the learning curve. Excited to chat some more. xx Elly

Hi Elly, Welcome! I'm in New Zealand, so I can relate to the time difference challenge.
There's always cool and interesting things going on here, and loads of helpful, clever people too.
Looking forward to seeing you around the site!

Hey Lyse! Nice to meet you. What are working on, or dreaming up, right now? xx Elly

Hey Elly, I meant to ask, what is FT writing? I write Spec Fic/Sci Fi, and I'm currently writing a space-romp mystery. :)
Sorry, writing "full time". I should have made that clearer. Not writing full time anymore, but I did for 5yrs to have a red-hot go of learning the craft for my genre.

I like sci fi, esp if it tends towards Fringe and X-Files style unexplained phenomena with science behind it. Your WIP sounds like it would be a great 'romp' ☺️ How fun

xx Elly
