• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Welcome… I’m New Here! Dying to meet me... that seems a tad extreme.

Hello, I'm Becca. I'm an English teacher who lives in Frankfurt, Germany but I'm originally from Oregon, USA. I'm here checking out the place to see what I can learn. I tend to be more of a lurker, but I thought I'd give this whole introduction thing a try. I love when I can get lost in a book and I appreciate writing that takes some chances or is just a bit odd. I cringe at the idea of people reading my creative writing, so that's what I'd like to work on.

Welcome aboard @Becca T :) You're on an interesting journey. Years ago, I went to Oregon and Crater Lake (where it lightly snowed); gorgeous part of the world. What do you write?

Crater Lake.jpg I grew up just outside of Bend, about an hour and 20ish minute drive to Crater Lake. I think it's best to visit at night. It's a dark sky area so the view is pretty amazing. I spent many cold nights laying in the parking lot star hopping. I'm not sure exactly how to describe what I write. I've had this story that I've literally been working on for years. I guess it might fall under a wide umbrella of soft science fiction. I tend to like to write about "what if" scenarios and the setting usually ends up being a character in it's own right if that makes any sense at all.

Gorgeous!

Hi. Try inventing a character that represents your creative writer side. Call them, the Editor. Urbane, witty, Bond-esque, Editor understands the inner workings of your mind. Perhaps to be known internally as Robert Gottlieb. Capable of accepting criticism for analysis while holding the line for what is unique to your voice. Send your Creative off on a spa holiday for the critique bit. Let the Editor sift through and get back to Creative with what is useful to them.

Nothing wrong with lurking. Welcome!!!

Hi Becca. So, you live just round the Bend? (Sorry. Couldn't resist.) Looks beautiful. Love your Avatar too. Welcome. (I'm not very skilled at lurking. I keep popping up all over the place).
*Ba-dum-tss* Lol... we'll see if I remain a lurker or not. It really depends on the community. I'll probably go through phases.

Hi Becca, Welcome to the Colony. Lurking's good, but it's also fun and life-affirming to get involved. Writing can be isolating and lonely (or peaceful and alone, whichever way you look at it), and Litopia is a lovely place for getting to know folk, testing your writing, giving feedback, etc.

Welcome @Becca T Hope you enjoy Litopia.

It’s extremely friendly here so do feel free to get involved as soon as you’re ready.

This is a good place to check out (How-to guide) to see a lot of what goes on in the colony.

If anything is unclear please contact me and I’ll be happy to assist.
