I haven't much to add to Carol's excellent advice here.
I also agree with others who have said that sub-text (what is not being said but is meant) is often a lot more interesting than the actual dialog.
And don't be afraid to have pauses, where nothing is said. Fill it with a bit of meaningful action, eg.

"Do you think I should leave now?" he said, staring straight at her.

She looked down at her half empty cup and slowly stirred the now cold tea.

"Yes," she said finally, not looking up.
