• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence
    • Don't take offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

COVID BEARD (A song in the country stylings of Dwight Yoakum)

CHORUS

Oh the COVID has been ki-end to my beard
The COVID has been ki-end to my beard
The COVID has been ki-end
And I trust that you won’t mi-end
That I wrote this little love song ‘bout my beard

VERSE 1

It’s been about a year now, since the COVID was a thing
And still we’re social distanced, its getting’ ti-r-ing
But for my one hairy feature
The quarantine’s my preacher
And my follicles sing “COVID is our king!”

CHORUS

VERSE 2

Now all my social outings are only vid-e-o
So I don’t even wear my pants when I go to a show
But a naked facial visage
Now that sends the wrong message
My unhaired face is scarier to know

CHORUS

VERSE 3

In Spring I last took razor to my nest-like facial hair
It seems the viral scariness had spurred its growing there
So I cut it very thin
Just to show the world my chin
But I look just like a man-child when I’m bare

CHORUS

VERSE 4

While I sit at home in PJs, I’m still zooming everywhere
And if I keep myself off screen, I can be completely bare
But my lax social demeanor
Might show the world my weaner
If my finger slips the camera on I’ll show more than my hair

CHORUS

VERSE 5

But despite all awkward moments on the screen
My facial hair is happy, growing lush and growing green
Wait, no its actually brown
And its covering my frown
And if you’re at home you probably know exactly what I mean

VERSE 6

I have a friend in Reno, who thinks the COVID is a hoax
And he’s out at the casino, with unmasked, stubborn folks
But he’s found himself a cough
That just won’t bugger off
Now he’s too winded to tell denier jokes

Final modified CHORUS:

Oh the COVID has been kind to my beard
The covid has been kind to my beard
Move over Movember
Cause in years we’ll still remember
How the COVID was so kind to our beards

I used to love Dwight Yoakum back in the day. Played in many country bands and we covered several of his songs from Guitars and Cadillacs.

The next Litfest (2021!!! Fo' sure: We've set the intention, right, @Barbara ? :) ) is going to have to have a musical component... so @Jonny , please tune up that guitar!!
Oh yes. We have to make up for not being able to meet up properly in 2020, and music will so just help that. @Jonny I leave you in charge of putting the talent for a Litband together. @dave.crowther I expect the musical score to your words above by the next Huddle.
