• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Hello
I was in the lab, and tried to open a recent thread by RK Wallis: 'Murders and Cheaters', but got the message:

Oops! We ran into some problems...

Not sure if some threads are restriced to certain members only. I've never had problems before viewing a thread.
Thanks,
Andy.

Yes, Andy, some posts are restricted.
Simple reason - we learn, over time, which Litopians are familiar with the genre we write in, have a good understanding of our style, and can spot the problems in our work lightening fast.
And then we have the choice to just invite those members to view and crit our work.

When I first joined I was open to any and all feedback. Which was great, and very helpful, but also often confusing (many people saying the complete opposite of each other), and time consuming (too many crits to keep track of).
I learned which Litopians 'get me'.
They understand my style, are familiar with my genre, know what my bad habits are, and are quick to provide comprehensive and totally invaluable feedback that I trust.
So now when I need some critiquing I just invite those people to view it.

My guess is that Rachel has done the same with 'Murders and Cheaters'.

Hi Andy,

As VH says it's a private thread. They show up as pale green in the feed.
It's a handy feature of the Lab if ever you just want a small, select group of readers to critique your work, perhaps because they write in a similar genre or you like their critiquing style. It saves having too many disparate critiques to work through.

My apologies @Afell1 , I had initially posted the thread open for everyone, but then realised I needed to make it private.

If your preferred genre in the Critter Directory in the Lab isn't crime, mystery or thriller then I wouldn't have wanted to waste your time.
