• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

I hope my fellow colonists don't succumb to writer's block as easily as I do ;)
One thing did meke me think, though: "There's no such thing as a great writer; there are only terrible writers with great ideas and the patience to hammer them into shape."

When I told my mother (who wrote for many years) that I'd closed my business to write, her response was, "Well, you certainly have the discipline to do it." Patience, discipline, sheer bloody stubbornness--whatever you call it, I think the observation is spot-on. Great ideas can only go so far unless you're willing to put sweat into them.

I relate to this. I'm literally winding down projects to prepare myself to write full time since taking myself seriously as a writer. Being disciplined was something I lacked but now that I'm switching to new routines and an increasingly productive mindset this has opened up the floodgates to story creation. It's a wonderful creative zone I never thought would be so deeply wonderful to discover on my own.

I now find that a walk is all I need to get over my writer's block as I think through chapters of my novel and find ways to fill the plot holes and create an increasingly better book, if I do say so myself :D.
