• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Most of us have problems fitting a writing conference into our schedules. But, if you have a completed novel it is definitely worth going to a conference with pitch sessions. Agents who would otherwise turn you down will not only listen to a pitch but may sign you on. In some cases, agents who have previously turned down a writer will decide to offer representation after hearing a pitch. Conferences are also a great way to connect with other writers, and be inspired!!

Here are 30 conferences coming up in July.

Thanks for posting Erica. Alas, I am across the pond in the UK and can't attend any on the list. :(

I did get to go to the Greenwich Book Festival a few weeks back though - nice lively buzz in the grandly historic setting of the Royal Navel College right besides the River Thames.
