Last day in Budapest, back home tonight. Here for my birthday. Marred by the tragedy on the Danube on Thursday. Death toll probably 28, highly preventable. I've always been suspicious of safety standards on tourist River cruises in any big city, inc London. With no enforcement of navigation rules, there are bound to be tragedies.

Back in the saddle tomorrow :)
NO POP-UPS ON SUNDAY! Really sorry, folks, but I’m not able to do Pop-Ups tomorrow :( The broken toe isn’t a problem, but the raging toothache overnight really is. I’m on antibiotics now, which if you know me isn’t anything I’m inclined to do except in extremis. Next week, Sunday 26th, will carry on as normal.

    Get well soon.
Broke my toe doing jump-throughs this morning :( Big, red and throbbing! Guess you just have to let them heal in their own time, right?

Broke a toe playing rugby once. Bloody painful. Doc told me not to put any weight on it as if I would anyway. Had to cut the end off a pair of trainers so I could get around.

In that case, it was probably terribly sprained but not broken.

Schrott is a very unfortunate name for an opera singer. It means rubbish! How do names like that persist?

I think he's Uruguayan, no idea what it means in Uruguayanese :) He was definitely the star. But it was a bitty production. In the shadow of La Forza.

I couldn't watch it live (currently in the unboxing madness of house-moving), but looking forward to seeing it on catch-up. :)

Stunning evening last night watching the live relay of La Forza del Destino from Covent Garden… I hope you were lucky enough to catch it, too, at your local cinema.. I love live events such as this. Anna Netrebko is in the same league as Callas.

Also he has a history with her, from their Tosca, where she left him alone on stage, embarrassingly filling in time, before she chose to make her entrance. He must have done something that she thought justified it, though. She's a flake, but one with a good heart.

I saw her Lady Macbeth last year, and she was very good in what is a very big role.

Ha – how very diva! Didn’t know that! Spices up the publicity, that’s for sure. I’d say she’s at the peak of her career now. But the whole show was strong, including an excellent (and large) chorus, hence the rave reviews. For me, weakest was set design, but the 4 hrs+ passed so quickly there was very little time to pick it apart.

My opera friend also didn't like the production, saying something about "unnecessary dancing getting in the way". That might be what other people thought was the good chorus work, though!

So should a tag line specifically compare two existing works?

If it's appropriate, yes. Sometimes authors. Sometimes a wider cultural way point.
