As winter descends on wild and woolly Cornwall, I'm dreading the cold days ahead. My flat in uninsulated, so while I enjoy 90 degrees in the summer as the nude novelist, I'm swathed in twenty garments to get through the months from December until April; it's dropped to 39 degrees overnight.

It's just as well that I'm hardy, but I stumbled across the answer to my frozen nether regions. It's called a Kotatsu, and is a Japanese device that combines bedding material with a table that has a heater beneath. If I can buy one in the U.K., I might just hibernate for the next five months!

Cold feet are an occupational hazard for writers. I think that I have Raynaud's Phenomenon, as my feet turn to blocks of ice in winter. Sitting still so much doesn't help blood circulation, so perhaps I should get jiggy with it by some Riverdance activity under the desk.
In the meantime, I wear several pairs of socks, slipper-boots and rest my tootsies on a couple of hot-water bottles.

I go barefoot in summer too, only wearing shoes for my once a week outing to the shops. This freedom caused my feet to increase in size by one shoe size. After being an 8 for forty years, I now need to take a 9...

Some things do get bigger on a man with age! Really useful parts of the anatomy, such as the tip of the nose and earlobes. I think that it's called drooping...

Is there a desk sized Kotatsu that I can buy somewhere? My wife keeps the house at 68 all summer and the vent is right above my desk. Would be nice for that whole area to stay warm. I'm sure the kitties would like it too...

(I think the first question may have been rhetorical. Just pretend I'm mumbling to myself and just wandered in and out of the room randomly or something :) )
