• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Pruning a First Draft WIP Novel can certainly be a Catharic process, a cut here, a chop there, get rid of the waste, that sentence can go, actually the paragraph doesn't do much, don't hold back, go for it, chapter gone too!. You're on a roll, the end result will be worth it .. got to keep cutting … .and finally, yes finally last page …. all done! Right, check that Word Count.

39,000 words ... gulp.

And yet, with other art, such as painting, music and film, in time, people are more interested in what was covered over and the outtakes and what ended up on the cutting room floor. I've sometimes thought that we writers should offer the 'author's cut' of our book.

Yup. With the help from people here my current WIP went from 120k to 70k and is now going up again. There was a lot of gumph it didn't need!
