• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Hello everyone,
I'm so keen to get on in Litopia that I posted a introduction in Café Life before realizing there was a whole Welcome Forum here. Sorry. :)

I'm an aspiring English writer living in France (No, not Provence...further south in the less scenic, more affordable part!) I've written five novels which are collecting metaphorical dust on my hard drive. From what I've read in the posts on Litopia, I'll be kicking myself that I didn't find this site sooner. I'm keen to learn as much as I can and to give back equally as much. In particular, I'm looking to hone my writing to keep the reader turning the page (instead of thumbing the corner of page one before putting the book down and using it as a coffee mat!).

Tips I can offer? Don't move to another country without learning the language first, Kids are absolutely great (but, my word, are they tiring!), and, yes...you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Benjamin

I think your tip about learning the language fails to take in the wonderful world of mime. Just saying, lol.

Hi Benjamin,

A very warm welcome to Litopia.

This is a great place to start and help you navigate around the site. It should help you find some things you might like to get involved with. THE LITOPIA HOW-TO GUIDE

Hope you enjoy it here.

Hi Benjamin

Welcome to the Colony! Great to have you on board. Any questions about the site, please message me. I'm one of the Guardians and always happy to help.

Do check out the Colony Notices to familiarize yourself with how the site works – The Prime Directive is the foundation of our ethos. For literary chat and general socializing, Café Life is THE place to be. We also have a Flash Club to stretch your writing muscles, and a poetry area, plus much more.

So get stuck in. You'll see that the more you put in, the more you get out. You'll learn a lot here.

Don't move to another country without learning the language first,
Yikes, I know what you mean. I came to the UK without speaking a word of English. Much fun to be had.

Great to meet you and good advice! I moved from Australia to the US, and I still had some trouble with the language ...
