There was "mild" censorship of the Internet when I lived in S'pore. It was more like Hayes Code self-censorship by the ISPs. I asked my ISP about a site I couldn't reach, and was told it "may have" violated Singapore law. They could not discuss blocks for specific sites, although the block-list was reviewed "periodically". It was a forum discussing Singaporean politics, so I guess that's why the block. I can't remember the site name.

I got the banhanmer from a different us-based forum (Fucked Company) for a post about manufacturing jobs leaving Singapore. They also deleted the post and the entire thread. My guess is someone threatened legal action, although I'll never know for sure.

Singapore is incredibly skilled at the 'it's not censorship because it's not written down anywhere' behind the scenes pressure to avoid attention. It used to be known as OB markers. No one really knew where these mythical Out of Bounds Markers were - and no one wanted to fond out...
