• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Thank you Pete as always and thanks so much Peggy for reading it to us, a great articulate voice definitely trained in the arts, singing perhaps? :)

Interesting variety of voices - can uniqueness be a common thread? This has given me a lot to think about. Thank you @AgentPete.

Thanks. Look forward to watching it. Not tonight though, must have an early night.

I finally finished listening - and found it fascinating. Thank you, Peter. I look forward to watching session #2

Never noticed this before. Really helpful!

I was taken with the Patrick Rothuss example. It sounded like a first-person storyteller, but presumably it’s in the third person - like omni writers of classic literature, where the author expresses their thoughts or opinions as a distinct narrator. I was under the impression that this is considered old-fashioned. Personally, I love it.

Looking forward to the next seminar. Thanks, Pete and Peggy.

I am not sure how I came across it. The site seems to throw things at me from weird angles sometimes and once down the alley related stuff comes along. I noted in a post the other day someone saying there is gold buried here but it's not always that easy to find.

@Steve C The 'buried gold' is signposted via archived links at the bottom of threads, a recently introduced feature to try and make it easier to find. We were starting to see a lot of repeated discussions, but no need to keep reinventing the wheel.

Or you can do specific searches using the search button, top right of this screen.

For instance, I type in the word 'query' to see what I can find out about tips for querying

and I get https://colony.litopia.com/search/5329/?q=query&c[title_only]=1&o=date

Litopia's been going so long, there is a lot stored in the archives. Yes, one could spend quite some time digging......it is a library.

Search button? There's a search button?
Unfortunately, I'm not a paid-up member, so I don't see a search button - is there a search button for ordinary members?
Does anyone else not see a search button, or have I gone blind?

I am a benefactor but have no search button. It may be an idea to make it clear on the membership options page that a search button is an extra benefit for some.

Ahh? I wasn't aware it wasn't visible to everyone, though I imagine the linked archives are? It was there when I was a non-subscription member.

Historically, there have been rare instances of trolls and trolling, from members who have come and gone, meanwhile using the forum's ease of navigation to troll targeted members, accessing their info and archives, and @AgentPete is careful to try and protect our privacy, but it's a tricky balance. But to ask him directly, use his handle in your comments @AgentPete, but allow him a few days response time.
