I came to a lot of these realizations after I wrote book 25 or so. Interesting. I think you have to do this. You can focus on publishing success or you can enjoy the art, and try to make it better, but you shouldn't judge the second goal by the how well you're succeeding at the first.

Yes, you just have to love writing for writing, and not write because you want to be published, that's a pipe dream (unless you self publish, of course), but whichever way you choose to go, you need to love writing and if you want that writing to be read you have to work damn hard for years (unless you're a unicorn).
