If you run your own website, chances are that some day, you'll be hacked by some eejit or another and possibly blacklisted by Google. This reduces your discoverability to almost nil and Google puts a big red warning graphic on your site when it comes up in search results. While I've never had that happen, I found a useful article for Word Press site builders, as to how to get the site back in the clear with Google, etc.
