Um, I think your forgetting that coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 pence?

Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.
This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.
Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…
We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

I don't get why a one-pence is only legal tender up to 20p...I think there's a slight misunderstanding here - we don't just have pound and penny coins. There are 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p coins as well. We might not call it a dime, but we do have the equivalent coin.
[Added] In fact it's a good job. It appears that individual pennies are only legal tender up to 20p...
