• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

The book Club is next Saturday, 19 April 2025, 1900 GMT. I apologize for the delay, but my nephew got married. If a cold 3degC drizzle on wedding day is good luck, their marriage will be epic. It was outdoors, BTW.

Anyhoo...we are going to review Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton. I thought it was a decent book, but a little Creeper told me most of you hated it So I don't get totally ambushed, I've included a poll here to find out how many of you wanted this tossed into "the hole."

I'm very curious to know what you think about this, so tell me...

- What do you think of Mickey? Also...If there's a single word to describe him, what would it be?
- What about Nasha? Is she believable as Mickey's main squeeze?
- What are your thoughts on Berto? Would you consider him a friend?
- Of course there's Marshall. Is he believable? A caricature?
- Is Kat relevant to the story?

I think a broader question to me is how Mickey 7 fits into modern Science Fiction.
- Is this where Sci-Fi is going? Otherwise, is it perhaps a relic that should be re-buried?
- What did this book do wrong, or right?
- Was the PoV telling a turn off?
- Was there a "moral" component to this story? If not, did it need one?
- If there was one thing you would change, what would it be?

Finally...how many of you have seen Mickey 17? Do you think the movie is better?
