And... on the same subject, I have finally learned how to check the 'readability' of my work when I write in Microsoft Word. If you didn't know already (as I didn't), in Word, you can check the Flesch Reading Ease score and the Flesch Kincaid grade level of your work. Of course, obtaining the score is easy enough, but figuring out what they mean can be tricky

I agree with you, that interpreting the Flesch Reading Ease score is tricky. WordPress use it, appending the rating to one edge of each post listed. What it approves and what it dislikes is bewilderingly contradictory. Reading how the algorithm works, it appears to favour long articles, which isn't how I decided to go with my Paul Pens blog, preferring to publish short pieces with several illustrations, including gifs to catch the eye. I tried an experiment, uploading an article of just 50 words supported by two pictures—which Flesch liked! Since then, I've ignored it.
