She made a poor job of hiding the damage. Elmer's glue was never meant to hold ceramic together, but it was all she had. Dust slipped between her fingers as she tried to put it back inside. All cleaned up, she lifted it back to the shelf.

"Edith!" her mom shrieked, and grandpa's urn shattered again.
 
She made a poor job of hiding the damage. She pushed her brother past the kitchen as fast as she could.

"Stop right there!" Mom never missed anything. "Is that blood?"

"Just dirt," she mumbled.

"You were playing with rubber band guns again," mom scolded.

And that's how her brother got the scar.
