Jane Austen Festival!

Oh, and GUESS WHAT?! There is a Maeve Binchy festival, called Echoes, every October: "An annual festival held every October in Dalkey, Maeve's home town, Echoes is programmed and hosted by Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre in collaboration with Maeve's husband Gordon Snell, and celebrates Maeve’s writing and legacy alongside the best in Irish writing and contemporary writers."

Just, you know, if you are planning on coming over for the Litopia Gathering next October... we could coordinate and you could come to the Echoes festival in Ireland too! Wouldn't that be **magnificent**?! :)

Sorry! I was wiped last evening when we got home. :)

Here are the pics I took. Not as many as I thought I would, only because like EVERYONE was dressed up and I didn't want to be rude and simply start snapping pictures of strangers. LOL!!

The grounds at Locust Grove were gorgeous, but it was HOT. 91F/33C at the height of the day, and perfectly sunny. LOL! Almost everything was outdoors. But we soldiered on and had such a marvelous time!!

Next year, I shall have a Regency outfit of my own, and so will David. :)

This was at one of the vendors there - Matti's Millinery Costumes - and they have an Etsy shop!! etsy.com/shop/MattiOnline They altered it onsite while we enjoyed the rest of the day, cause you know I'm a bit vertically challenged and it was way too long for me. LOL! But I adore it, and now I shall have fun finding a reticule, a bonnet, etc. to match it for next year! :)

Here are pics of some of the other things I bought. I found the reticule before I found the dress but hey, this gives me an excuse to have one made in those colors, too. LOL! :)

We had afternoon tea (that was indoors, thank goodness) and we were seated with a couple from Clarksville Tennessee, where our daughter Nicole went to college at Austen Peay University. He's in the military and they live on the base there in Clarksville.

The food was really good - little sandwiches, scones, grapes, and plenty of different teas to sample.

The workshop we attended was how to become an accomplished lady, and they talked about all kinds of things like the different classes, and who interacted with whom and how. It was really interesting and I learned a few things I never knew. David enjoyed it, too.

There were so many vendors!! Next year we'll know what to expect. This year was simply to see what it was all about. We also will be ready next year to stay for the ball and dinner on Saturday night.

It's actually a three-day event, and we're kicking around the idea of staying at a hotel in Louisville (the festival is just outside that city) for two nights so we can attend everything next year.

Looks like you had fun. Brilliant to have the dress for next year. Loved the other purchases too. The fan is delightful.

Unbelievable. If they do that, that is the reaction you'll get from those who care about Jane Austen- they'll never believe she wrote it. However, those who don't care about Jane Austen, the times, the literature, the mentality, the society, the "Englishness", the charm, will probably enjoy another ordinary pulp paper back of our times, and into the bin it goes as soon as it is read- just like any other commercial attempt to attract the not too fussy readers.
