Yup, had a minor stroke in '95. The recovery from it was gruelling, largely because I also chose to give up booze after 27 years of drinking like a whale. Being clean and sober is a damned sight stranger than being inebriated.
 
Truly sorry to hear all that - but very happy to see that, however rocky and twisty the path, it brought you here.
Indeed, thank you Bernard. I've never quite understood that two roads diverged in the wood option, where the poet took the one less travelled - at least so far as my own life went. I crashed off the road altogether, hacking my way through the undergrowth and making friends with a few beasts along the way. I've re-emerged into civilisation to write about it all, for after all, what are writers but explorers of life?
