• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Instead of Amazon (and better for indie booksellers...)

An interesting new online book-buying service has begun in the US.

Basically, it's playing Amazon at its own game, with the idea that independent booksellers get a better crack of the whip.

Read about it here and visit Bookshop here.

In the UK, there is Hive, which offers a similar service, I believe. (I've tried to use it myself, but it's not so useful if you're seeking delivery to Spain, in my experience!)

Have any of you used these? Or know of similar in other countries?

I think it's a good idea, anyway. I hope it helps keep the bookselling industry diverse, rather than overly concentrated under one giant retailer....

Fun. I found one of my books available through bookshop. It was the one that appeared in Kirkus magazine, which is how I think it got in the shop. Unfortunately, Kirkus put the wrong cover version of the book in their review. But it makes it easy to see that as the source.

And I found mine -- or at least, the books from Ingram-Sparks, so maybe it's the paperback, real, book versions they list?
