• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Inconsistent Vowels (or 'Why I love Italian')

Yes, Italian is more logical in that every letter is pronounced (unlike French). So for example, it's pizza (pee-tsa) not (pizzah), bella (bel-lah) not (bellah), posso (pos-so) not (possoh). English is more complicated and like every language, is evolving, but its complexity is its charm and beauty and I wouldn't want to change a single thing.

I love English too. One of my favorite tapes was one by Charles W Dunn. He is awesome. There are several pieces on his on YouTube. If you like Changing English, you'll love this.

Goodness, how things have changed. I have 'The Canterbury Tales' and can more or less make out the meaning, but this goes further back and seems to have Norse roots. What will we sound like in a thousand years?
