Here’s the thing. Writing, more than anything else, is about voice and emotion (some people may disagree with that – but if they do, it simply means they don’t know what they’re talking about).
A strong voice together with the ability to evoke deep emotion will get you successfully published.
Nothing else really counts.
None of the courses, seminars, conferences, one-on-ones, editorial services, and all the other catchpenny malarkey you see so often on the dear old internet.
None of it counts for a fig.
Focus on developing your voice!
That’s the best piece of advice I can give to any writer.
We’re looking at voice on this Saturday’s Huddle. It’s not a lecture or seminar. Don’t expect to sit back for a couple hours and let it wash over you.
But it’s not too hard, either.
I’d like you to bring along some writing that you feel has a clear voice. Not your own. An extract from a published book… not less than a paragraph, not more than a page.
Not too hard, I think
Post it in the Huddle Hangout beforehand so we can see it and download it if necessary. It doesn’t really matter how you post it – you might retype it or maybe upload an image of the page itself.
Be prepared to explain why you’ve chosen it.
So let’s take this journey together, and let’s start this Saturday!
To take part, please follow the joining instructions when they’re posted.
