Chekhov, I hear you, brother. I saw a brilliant production of ' Seagull' in London a few decades ago. The director took Chekhovs word that he was writing comedy and it was HILARIOUS. I can't watch another portentous, turgid production of anything Chekhov now. the Russian sense of humour is quite a bit like the Irish. What in Hamlet is referred to as "Tragic-comedy."
